Activities in Dalabelos Ageliana Rethymno Crete

Ceramic studio

In the Ceramic studio of Dalabelos Ecotourism Estate you will be able to experience an immersion into the history and the culture of the area, plus you can observe the resident artists at work. Furthermore, hotel guests will be able to attend seminars to learn how to mold clay, work the wheel, and create ceramics.

Amphitheater

The guests of Dalabelos Estate will not be without music. You will experience evenings of local music recitals performed by authentic Cretan musical instruments.

Wine Press

In this area, we will be pressing the grapes in order to get the must. Grapes are picked from the end of August to the middle of September, always based on the climatic conditions.

The picking of the grapes is one of the most enjoyable agricultural activities. This work is accompanied with singing in the vineyards and culminates with the pressing, where one receives the gift of must for a year’s worth of work in the vineyard.

You could join these activities and feel the bounty of the Cretan land. You can also learn how to make moustalevria - must syrup, the preparation of must for wine by placing it in barrels, and the preparation of grape stalks and residue of the pressed must for raki by placing them in barrels as well. If you come to Dalabelos Estate between October 15 and November 30, you could participate in the distillation of raki from the residue of pressed must.

Other Activities

All seasons have their own charm and activities in societies that are centered on agricultural and livestock production. Seasons and climate are the central points of reference

For example, the shearing of the sheeps took place in May before the intense heat of the summer, the summer vegetable gardens were planted from mid April on, in order to have all the vegetables available by mid June - those were the days that we had no tomatoes during the winter

The collections of olives is the primary agricultural activity of our area and even though it takes place during the end of autumn and winter months it is really the culmination of year old labors of cleaning, pruning, digging, and fertilizing the olive trees

On Crete there is also an abundance of wild greens, which appear with the autumnal rains and are available until the spring and into summer. These can be eaten either raw, boiled, or sauteed, utilizing various recipes (some of these greens but far from an exhaustive list are: glistrida - portulaca oleracea, vlito - amaranth, lapatho - rumex, maratho - foeniculum, vulgare, radiki - cichicorum indibus).
